Could the Stargate franchise finally be dead? As it turns out, no, of course it isn't.
Tropic film holds on to top spot
(from BBC News)
The Dark Knight battles on, sitting in 4th place this weekend behind Tropic Thunder (in only its second week) and two new releases -- and only $5.8m behind #1 too. But this particular article is worth reading because, thanks to poor writing, it implies Titanic took $601m this weekend.

I actually liked Stargate. I watched the series fairly regularly (though admittedly not religiously) until around season 4 or 5 I think it was, when they started messing around with the cast.
I've seen the occasional episode since, but it appears to have suffered the fate of most lengthy sci-fi franchises, and disappeared up its own arse, alienating any casual viewers or potential new viewers.
In summary:
The film was okay, James Spader is cool. He wasn't in the series, but the guy who replaced him was good too. But mostly the series main high point was Richard Dean Anderson (MacGuyver!!)and the accompanying sense of humour.
Then it turned into some kind of Farscape 2, or something. And I liked early Farscape too, but still...
As for Craplantis, I never watched a full episode. Though I have seen bits. Apparently Kaylee from Firefly is in it now. Wonderfalls, Firefly, and now Craplantis... is there a series she CAN'T get cancelled? *fingers crossed she appears on The X-Factor*
lolz.
I read somewhere (it may even be in one of those articles) that the guys who made the original film are working on / considering working on the two sequels they originally had planned... thereby wiping out all 15 existing seasons / however many direct-to-DVD movies / however many forthcoming seasons of TV continuity. My thoughts on that are rather along the lines of, "ha!"
