This is a phenomenon I've oft noticed, though here the well-known examples (Armageddon/Deep Impact, Antz/A Bug's Life) are accompanied by some more obscure (who knew Top Gun or Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves both had twins?), and some which stretch it with release dates a year (or more) apart. Interesting read though.
