Collection Count
Collection Count tracks my DVD/Blu-ray collection via a number of statistics every week.
Oops — this is rather late, isn't it? But, as you'll see, it's the third substantial week in a row. In fact, if a parcel from the US had turned up when I expected it to, this would actually have beaten two weeks ago to be the biggest of the month. But it didn't, so it doesn't.
Still, there's six new arrivals (The Thing (1982) 4K set includes The Thing (2011) Blu-ray bundled, so it's a net increase of five) — and, wonder of wonders, one of them's a DVD! That'd be season two of Romanzo Criminale, which has been available on Blu-ray in some countries, but I've never found season one on Blu-ray anywhere, and I already own that on DVD, so I'm just completing the set. It also means that every single stat goes up this week, a real rarity.
And all of that is just in time for the monthly running time update — the main reason I took so long putting this post together. Have these busy weeks led to an uncommonly large leap?
Number of titles in collection: 2,663 [up 6]
Of which DVDs: 1,064 [up 1]
Of which Blu-rays: 1,599 [up 5]
— of which Ultra HD Blu-rays: 122 [up 3]
Number of discs in collection: 6,723 [up 18]
Number of films: 3,113 [up 11]
Number of additional cuts: 232 [up 1]
Number of TV episodes: 9,108 [up 10]
Number of short films: 885 [up 11]
Total running time of collection (approx.):
484 days, 21 hours, and 2 minutes.
(Up 2 days, 4 hours, and 23 minutes from last month.)
I'm not sure about all-time, but that's the biggest running time increase since April's.
See you next week, faithful reader.

Frances McDormand & Joel Coen Answer All Questions On Eve Of New York Film Festival Opener The Tragedy Of Macbeth
by Mike Fleming Jr (from Deadline)
Macbeth is my favourite Shakespeare, so I'm very much looking forward to this new adaptation. I like the Coen brothers' movies less than most people, but this is something different, and the two leads are great, so I still have expectations. However it turns out, this is an interesting interview about how the project came to be and the motivations behind its artistic choices.

Collection Count
Collection Count tracks my DVD/Blu-ray collection via a number of statistics every week.
I said last week would probably be the busiest of September, with one new release and seven sales purchases. And it still is, but I hadn't expected this week to come so close.
That's due to a bulk order from the US arriving super-speedily, plus I didn't realise Black Widow was out on disc this week until last weekend, so that was a last-minute (still-technically-a-)preorder. Throw in another couple of new releases (Early Universal Volume 1, and Days of Heaven from Australia via Amazon UK) and this week's tally is a more-than-respectable seven new additions... although one of them's a BD-to-4K upgrade, so the numbers fall one short of that.
Number of titles in collection: 2,657 [up 6]
Of which DVDs: 1,063 [no change]
Of which Blu-rays: 1,594 [up 6]

Alrighty then, here we go: after a quiet few weeks (whole month, even), things are kicking off. This week's additions feature one new release (which arrived pleasingly early, as it's not due out until the 20th) and a whopping seven sale pickups (all 88 Films releases, mostly gialli). This will probably wind up being the busiest single week of September, but there's plenty more to come overall...

Blindspot 2021 #8. Only watched the first part (of two), because it's a long film and, frankly, I needed to go to bed. Part Two tomorrow (hopefully).
Also watched one of the Blu-ray's extras: when the film was re-released in 1930, it came with a short introduction and intermission in which director D.W. Griffith chatted to Walter Huston about some of the film's inspiration, and basically tried to excuse its racism. It's an interesting bit of additional context.
