this week on 100 Films

4 new reviews were published to 100 Films in a Year this week...

The Purge: Anarchy (2014)
The first film was a contained horror/thriller about one well-to-do family whose home comes under assault from a gang of Purge participants on the night in question. This first sequel ditches most of the Horror genre trappings to instead emulate ’70s B-actioners, in the vein of stuff like Assault on Precinct 13 or The Warriors, and it’s all the better for it.

Collection Count

Collection Count tracks my DVD/Blu-ray collection via a number of statistics every week.

A quieter week this time, with just two new additions. Next week would've been quieter still: I have no preorders for once! But then I caved to Indicator's current sale, so there should be a pile of titles from them. Hey-ho.

Of which DVDs: 1,075 [no change]
Of which Blu-rays: 1,480 [up 2]
— of which Ultra HD Blu-rays: 97 [up 1]

this week on 100 Films

This week began with a new month, and so it was time for 100 Films in a Year to look back at the previous one...

Plus, there were 2 new reviews, too...

The 100-Week Roundup XXVI
A pair of awards-worthy short animations — the first won an Oscar, the second was nominated for one. I was going to include more films in this week’s roundup (effectively bundle two weeks into one), but it felt like a disservice to this pair. They are...

- Paperman
- Waltz with Bashir

Collection Count

Collection Count tracks my DVD/Blu-ray collection via a number of statistics every week.

Having pushed the running time update back a week purely because I hadn't had time to update it, this week I got a whole pile of new titles. To be exact, there were 10 additions, though various upgrades keep the net change at +4. And the number of discs actually goes down, thanks to The World at War Blu-ray being an 8-disc upgrade to a 26-disc-version I owned on DVD. That wasn't even the most complicated-to-factor title, which only turned up yesterday morning. So this update is late, but it's complete!

Number of titles in collection: 2,553 [up 4]
Of which DVDs: 1,075 [down 6]
Of which Blu-rays: 1,478 [up 10]
— of which Ultra HD Blu-rays: 96 [no change]

Number of discs in collection: 6,524 [down 6]
Number of films: 2,963 [up 7]
Number of additional cuts: 210 [up 1]
Number of TV episodes: 9,052 [up 4]
Number of short films: 843 [no change]

Total running time of collection (approx.):
472 days, 16 hours, and 8 minutes.
(Up 4 days, 8 hours, and 11 minutes from last month.)

That's the biggest monthly increase since June 2019... although it does have five weeks in it, so that's kinda cheating, I guess.

See you next week, faithful reader.

TV

Celebrity Mastermind
2020/2021 Episode 6 (of 14)
[Watch it (again) on iPlayer.]

Damages
1x01 Get Me a Lawyer [3rd watch]
Starting Damages again from the beginning, because it's about a decade since I watched season 3 (the last season to air on regular UK TV, as far as I'm aware) and I'd like to see seasons 4 and 5. I'd forgotten I already watched season 1 twice until after finishing this episode, but that's ok because it's really good.

Leverage
1x04 The Miracle Job
1x05 The Bank Shot Job

WandaVision
Part 9 The Series Finale [finale]

Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home (2018)
This ad for Australian tourism, released back in 2018, initially got people excited because it looked like it was a trailer for a surprise fourth Crocodile Dundee movie. Eventually, the truth was revealed (I think during the Superbowl?) Anyway, they never released a 'complete' version — it only exists as a collection of four or five teasers/trailers/adverts, which you can find on YouTube edited together by just being stuck one after another. They tend to be called "extended version"s, but really it's just playing all the clips back to back. If they'd properly cut all the variants together into one complete version, I'd probably count it and review it as a short on 100 Films; but they didn't, so I'm just mentioning it here (and on Letterboxd).
